Root canal therapy to treat infection and restore comfort

Why is a Root Canal Necessary?

Preserves the Tooth

If the pulp is infected or inflamed, it can cause severe pain and swelling, and the infection can spread to surrounding tissues. A root canal removes the infected pulp, cleans the inside of the tooth, and seals it, preserving the tooth structure and functionality. Without this treatment, the tooth would likely need to be extracted.

Addresses Pain and Sensitivity

When the pulp is affected, you may experience intense pain, especially when chewing or exposed to hot or cold temperatures. A root canal alleviates this discomfort by treating the underlying cause, whereas a filling only addresses surface-level decay.

Prevents Further Complications

Leaving an infected tooth untreated can lead to abscesses, bone loss, and the spread of infection to other parts of the body. A root canal eliminates the infection and prevents these serious complications.

Long term Solution

While a filling is ideal for minor issues, a root canal provides a long-term solution for saving a severely damaged tooth. With proper care, a tooth treated with a root canal can last a lifetime.

Why do I need a Root Canal instead of a Dental Filling?

A dental filling is an excellent solution for treating small cavities or minor tooth damage. It restores the tooth by filling in areas of decay and preventing further damage. However, when decay or infection extends deep into the tooth, reaching the pulp (the inner part of the tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels), a dental filling is no longer sufficient.
